BluSky Repairs New Hope Church's Damaged Roof

On June 6, 2012 a severe hailstorm swept through parts of Colorado leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. New Hope Presbyterian Church of Castle Rock suffered substantial roof damage as did most properties in the community. After the storm subsided and the damage was evident, Tim Williams, New Hope church member and employee of Allied Building Products, ordered an EagleView roof measurement report to provide critical information required for the roof replacement project. "We knew this reroof job would present several challenges, one of which would be how to manage to get this project done without disrupting the daily use of the building," said Williams. "It's a big church and a very active community resource serving as home for a preschool and 50 or more area groups."

BluSky Restoration Contractors, headquartered in Centennial, Colo., had a tie to New Hope Church through BluSky's president and CEO, Terry Shadwick. He was familiar with the building's uses and the congregation's concerns regarding safety and continued use of the building throughout the project. He entrusted the project to his highly capable regional manager and estimator, Jason Luce.

BluSky leads the way in the 2009 AAMD Spring Clean Event

Apartment Association Works Magic
If you like magic, you’ll love the Apartment Association of Metro
Denver (AAMD). For nearly two decades AAMD has been working its magic on behalf of Family HomeStead and 2009 is no exception. Months of planning and preparation went into the annual Spring Clean, which culminated on June 10 at Family HomeStead’s Park Ogden and Zephyr transitional properties.

Perhaps the most dramatic change could be seen in one apartment at Park Ogden. Led by BluSky Restoration, the project transformed this small dingy basement unit into a gleaming showroom after a total AAMD makeover. A brand new kitchen boasted new cabinets and countertops in addition to a shiny new sink and appliances. New flooring, lighting, and a bathroom makeover combined with a sparkling paint job to complete the project.

BluSky President, Terry Shadwick and Vice President

CBS 4 covering BluSky Restoration

BluSky continues to shine through recession’s clouds
As reported by the Denver Business Journal and CBS News 4

In the five years since the Centennial company was founded, revenue has soared. The company expects to gross more than $20 million this year, up from $1.7 million in 2004, according to CEO Terry Shadwick.

“We attribute it to our customer service standards and the professional people that we have on board here,” Shadwick said.

BluSky is a general contractor specializing in restoring buildings damaged by fire, flood, mold and other disasters. It also does non-emergency renovations and updating.

“While the renovations and updating part of our business is tied to the economy, fires, floods and hurricanes really don’t care if we’re in a recession or not,” Shadwick said. More >>

Mojo Maker - Doing It Right By Making It Better.
By Lori Snider

When making a hiring decision, Terry Shadwick, President and founder of BluSKY Restoration asks his team a crucial question, “Can we picture this individual interacting and relating well with our clients?” If the answer is no, the candidate is not hired. Because with BluSKY, customers and company culture intertwine, and have resulted in an environment that fosters growth and delivers success.

Five years ago, BluSKY was founded in Denver, with the principles of breaking typical stereotypes in the restoration industry. Plagued by a lack of overall professionalism, as it pertained to ethics and workmanship, Shadwick saw a unique opportunity to do it differently.

The numbers are impressive. In five years, the company has grown from 2 employees and one location to 70 employees in 6 offices, with revenue projected to grow another 30% in 2009 despite the poor economic outlook.

How does a relatively new organization successfully compete with larger companies, a flat real estate market and a rotten economy? To Terry, the answer is simple, but certainly not easy. It takes a real commitment that every member of the team must execute daily.

First and foremost, the company has executed on the commitment to “do what’s right.” “A great number of companies give lip service to ethics,” says Dan Flanagan, Senior Vice President of Business Development. “The thing I love about this company is that we really do give back, and there is an ongoing commitment to customer service that keeps the focus on making it right every time. That commitment starts at the top. Every week,” says
Flanagan, “Terry reviews all customer surveys and hands out $5 bills for every perfect review returned. His focus is on delivering exceptional service, and to make sure we are always seeking a positive outcome for our clients and suppliers.” The strategy has paid off. 95.8% clients surveyed in 2008 indicated they would hire BluSKY Restoration again.

dan flanagan Dan Flanagan has been named by Colorado Biz Magazine as one of Colorado's 25 most powerful salespeople! Dan Flanagan, 37, Vice president of business development, BluSKY Restoration Contractors Inc., Centennial, CO. What he does: Oversees a team of real estate restoration and capital improvement professionals that support the sales effort. Background: BluSKY generated $9.6 million in revenues in 2007. Sales for 2008 were projected at $15.2 million.

Tough sales: "This year (2008), we were invited by a long-term customer to bid on a multifamily community improvement project that took sales legwork to a whole new level. This particular project is valued at approximately $1.7 million, and involved making significant plumbing improvements to more than 400 residential apartment homes. On behalf of the client, we worked closely with Aurora City officials and code inspection teams to jointly review and interpret building code in order for the project to move forward — on time, and within budget."

Recession-survival skills: "The client in the aforementioned example is a relationship that I have spent the past six years actively cultivating—supporting client education, celebrating client career growth and taking service to a new level, regardless of project size. This particular customer has been the source of nearly $5 million in business. Although six years may seem like a long sales cycle, the result is a trust and confidence in working together that is forged over time and many individual projects, and that return on investment is priceless."
