BluSky 20th Anniversary: Saying Thank You to a Great Leader and Founder
Terry Shadwick had been in the Restoration Industry and started BluSky with a vision of treating customers, subcontractors, and trade partners better. From the very beginning he sought to deliver an excellent customer experience. To ensure his company was living up to his ideals, he surveyed customers on every single job, and we still do that today. The company quickly established a consistent history of having 96% of it’s customers say yes, they would hire us again year after year.
Terry would be the first to give credit to all the employees that did the work. The second pillar of how he built BluSky was the culture he established. Again, seeking independent verification of the job they were doing, he surveyed the employees and applied for independent awards. Even in the early years, BluSky consistently won awards for Best Places to Work. Additionally, he was a visionary in the industry by sharing ownership among a broader group of employees. Throughout its history, BluSky has continued to expand its employee shareholder group.
No matter how well things were going, Terry always sought continuous improvement. He inspired others to do their best. Although we don’t always meet the high expectations Terry set for BluSky’s customer service and culture, we never stop striving to do our absolute best.
Kent Stemper, CEO, reflecting on the imprint Terry Shadwick left. “When I took over from Terry as CEO, I felt a tremendous responsibility that in the areas of culture and customer service, I either had to improve them or for sure not let them slip. There were so many ways that the standard he set led us to where we are today – we couldn’t possibly mention them all. And I know so many others feel exactly the way that I do in owing Terry a huge debt of gratitude.”
